Another excellent Edublogs.org blog

The Year 2 reading groups have been reading a scary  story called The Thing. We pretended that we were The Thing and wrote a scary invitation. Then we wrote about things that frighten us. We wrote on ghost shapes and made them look terrifying.

sany0235.JPGHi! We’re the Year 5 reading group and we’ve just finished a book called THE ZIPPER by David Dickson. It’s all about peer pressure and how Nathan, the main character, is forced into doing dangerous things by his so called friends.

We’ve come up with some questions. If you’ve read the book see if you can answer them.

MAKA

Why was Rex good to Owen?

Are Owen and Nick good friends to Nathan?

Why did Nathan jump off the roof?

MONA

What did Nathan use to protect himself in the billycart?

Why didn’t Owen or Nick go first in the billycart?

What could have Nathan said to his friends, instead of letting them push him around?

JORDAN

What made Nathan take the Zipper down Birdy St?

Why was Nathan on the roof?

Who do you think, is the biggest coward, in the story? Why?

HOUDA T Why do you think they dared Nathan to jump off the roof? Who helped Nathan’s dad to build the billycart? Why did Nick and Owen call Nathan a chicken?

ABBAS

Why didn’t Owen or Nick go first on the Zipper? What could Nathan have said to his mates?

How is Wally related to Nathan?

Here are some of the photos of the choir, on the day of N.S.W. Primary Schools’ choral concert.

[rockyou 78406638]

In the first week of school, this year, we found out that we had been accepted, to perform, at the Opera House.

All children from Years 3 to 6, were invited to audition for the school choir - 36 were chosen and we began to learn the repetoire.

In April, 20 children from this choir were selected, to form our Opera House choir. They were chosen, not only for their voices, but also for their commitment and enthusiasm.

They gave up their lunchtimes, once a week, to practise their parts and then sing them in harmony. This was a wonderful learning experience,  as they learnt to sing the syncopated rhythms of Bare Necessities, build up to a dramatic crescendo in Adiemus and convey the emotion and pathos of songs such as Homeward Bound and Feed The Birds. On the night of the concert, they performed 11 songs, ranging from the relatively simple, Patch Of Heaven, to the highly demanding Mozart Alleluia Canon.

The day was very exciting - rehearsal all afternoon, dinner at City Extra and then the evening performance - which was FANTASTIC!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS CHOIR - YOU ARE LEGENDS!!!!!!!!!
